Shortlist announcement for the 2011 Awards

News: The shortlists have been announced for the 9th British Sports Book Awards - the winners will be named at a ceremony at The Savoy Hotel on Monday 9th May.

The awards are bigger and better this year with the arrival of two new awards for Best Racing Book and Best Sports Book Retailer.

After 9th May the winners in each category will then be entered into a public vote to find the best overall sports book of the year - a campaign that will be supported by booksellers throughout the country in the run up to Father's Day.

TV Book Club viewers vote Room the best read of the series

News: Emma Donoghue’s Room emerged triumphant yet again this week, as viewers of The TV Book Club voted Room their favourite Spring read.

Close second and third positions were taken by Daisy Goodwin’s My Last Duchess and Sarita Mandanna’s Tiger Hills in an online poll for viewers.*

After Room was reviewed on The TV Book Club on More4 on 16 January it shot to the top of the Official UK Top 50, spent three weeks at No1 and has stayed in the top 10 ever since. It has now sold over 240,000 copies.

The Pure Passion Awards winners announced

News: Jojo Moyes wins Romantic Novel of the Year 2011 with book inspired by text message: Later X

The Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) have announced the winners of this year’s Pure Passion Awards at a champagne reception at One Whitehall Place, Westminster.

Winner of the RNA’s long-standing and hotly-contested Romantic Novel of the Year – recognising the best of the year’s novels exploring the deep mysteries of the human heart – is Jojo Moyes for her book 'The Last Letter from your Lover.'

Katie Fforde announces shortlist for Pure Passion Awards 2011

News: London, 10th February 2011: Katie Fforde, chair of the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) is delighted to announce the shortlist for the Pure Passion Awards 2011.

The RNA Pure Passion Awards celebrate the very best in romantic fiction. Over 200 titles were submitted for this year’s four categories, from the long-standing and hotly-contested Romantic Novel of the Year, to more recent additions which recognise the breadth of romantic fiction – the Historical Novel Prize, Romantic Comedy Award, and Love Story of the Year.

News: Submissions request for titles for 2011 SUMMER READ TV Book Club

Please find below the official submissions request for The SUMMER READ TV Book Club 2011 from Amanda Ross at Cactus TV.
The deadline for submissions is Monday 21st February.

The selection process is the same as with previous campaigns and continues until w/c 23rd May, when the final selection of 8 fiction titles is revealed, confidentially, to all participating publishers and retailers (a longlist of 20 titles will also be confidentially shared with publishers at the beginning of May).

Room by Emma Donoghue storms to the top of The Official UK Top 50

News: Emma Donoghue's Room (Picador) is top of The Official UK Top 50 thanks to a 20% week-on-week sales surge following its spot on The TV Book Club.
Room sold 26,368 copies in the seven days to 22nd January, up 4,500 on its previous week sale. Other titles in the book club have also seen an increase in sales: My Last Duchess by Daisy Goodwin (headline) up 53%, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (Pan) up 27% and The Junior Officers' Reading Club by Patrick Hennessey (Penguin) up 21%.

David Nicholls’ One Day is Galaxy Book of the Year

News: The unanimous winner of the Galaxy Book of the Year has been announced as One Day by David Nicholls (Hodder & Stoughton).

The prestigious accolade was voted for by the public from a shortlist of the eight category winners from the Galaxy National Book Awards 2010 – an impressive literary set that comprised Stephen Fry, Hilary Mantel, Jonathan Franzen and Andrew Marr, amongst others.

News: The Galaxy National Book Awards is due to be repeated on More4 on Saturday 11th December at 23:15. The final episode of Booked - Stars of the Galaxy National Book Awards will be shown on Sunday at 19:30. This episode features an indepth interview with Sir Alan Sugar by Richard Bacon and Claudia Winkleman interviewing the Outstanding Achievement Winners - Terry Pratchett and Martin Amis. TV Book Club 2011 titles revealed

News: Ten books that are set to become must-read favourites have been selected for the new series of The TV Book Club, starting January 2011.

Funded by Specsavers, the ten part series screens weekly on More4 and Channel 4, featuring a panel of presenters critiquing each week’s chosen title.

The ten selected titles featured will be:
Room by Emma Donoghue (Picador) featured 16th Jan
The Long Song by Andrea Levy (Headline) featured 23rd Jan
The Junior Officers' Reading Club by Patrick Hennessey (Penguin) featured 30th Jan

RATINGS SUCCESS MEANS EXTENDED ITV TRANSMISSION FOR BOOKABOO

News: Bookaboo is proving so popular with audiences that CiTV has extended the run of series two on ITV1 until the end of January 2011.

Bookaboo, which this series features storytellers such as Johnny Vegas, Lorraine Kelly and Emilia Fox, is part of Mini CiTV's Fluffy Club on Sundays (7.10am) and has been reaching 14% of the audience.
